The working principle of the swing drive is essentially the highly efficient conversion of "hydraulic energy → mechanical energy" combined with powerful speed reduction. High-pressure hydraulic fluid drives an internal hydraulic motor (piston-type or gear-type) within the drive to rotate at high speed. However, this speed is too high and the torque too low to drive the multi-ton upper structure. Therefore, the motor's output shaft is directly connected to a precision multi-stage planetary gear reduction mechanism. This gear set acts like a sophisticated "torque amplifier." Through the sequential meshing of multiple gear stages, it drastically reduces the motor's high rotational speed (typically achieving reduction ratios from tens to hundreds of times) while simultaneously multiplying the output torque. Finally, this amplified immense torque is delivered via the output pinion gear at the drive's end. This pinion gear meshes precisely with the slewing ring bearing's internal gear ring, which is fixed to the excavator's undercarriage frame. The powerful rotation of the pinion gear pushes the massive slewing ring gear to turn, thereby rotating the entire upper structure relative to the undercarriage.
